Aftercare
Aftercare has become a growing concern for me in recent months. I've always trusted my clients to care for their skin well at home by keeping it clean and hydrated. I'd get them to make use of what suitable options they already had at home to save them spending extra, which is still a fair option. However, to ensure hygiene, prevent prolonged inflammation and really feed the skin well enough to produce optimal after results, a carefully formulated aftercare product may be more crucial then I was lead to believe.
What to look for
Hygiene
The first thing to look for before even reading the description- the packaging. Is it in a jar? Will your fingers have to mix with the product too much? How about your precious ingredients being exposed to the air? Air exposure and tampering with products directly, risk rapid product degradation.
Ingredients
Not only can some ingredients hinder healing, some can outright aggravate and cause unwanted results. Having acids on the skin post-treatment can be a recipe for dry skin and breakouts. Take care to use specific aftercare options that will flood the skin with high strength healing and skin-enhancing ingredients. Your new post-treatment skin really drinks up the right ingredients to see results you wouldn't believe!
Barrier
If you've had an intense treatment, your skin barrier can be left pretty traumatised leaving your skin exposed to environmental irritants all around us. Choosing products that strengthen and encourage the skin barrier to reform is wise to achieve healthy skin. Some products like this JanMarini option, will aim to mimic the skins barrier and behave like a shield during healing.
